MCAA BAP RULES
(still being reviewed by officers I guess, but we need it posted so we can have a BAPS auction at next swap)
The MCAA Breeders Award Program (BAP) is established to accomplish the following: Encourage members to breed fish, share spawning and rearing information, increase the availability of different fish species, encourage hobbyists to house, reproduce and distribute all species particularly those “At Risk” species recognized by C.A.R.E.S, to recognize and reward the accomplishments of club members for their success in breeding fishes.
The following rules shall govern the MCAA BAP.
1. The BAP Committee shall be responsible for administration of the program. The BAP Chairperson shall be appointed by the MCAA Officers. The MCAA Board shall appoint four to five club members to assist with the construction and implementation of this program, after implementation, the BAP program shall be administered by the BAP Chair and two assistants to the BAP chair that will be appointed by the Board.
2. The BAP Chairperson shall be responsible for maintaining all records that pertain to the BAP. All spawning reports shall be kept on file indefinitely. These reports will be surrendered by the BAP Chair at the end of his or her term to the Board.
3. The BAP Chairperson shall be responsible for preparing and presenting all awards.
4. The BAP Chairperson shall submit a semi-annual report to the Vice President. The report shall contain the following information for the reporting period: Number of spawning reports received in total, number and level of breeding awards earned, and any other pertinent information and recommendations. A verbal report will be provided by the BAP Chair at each regular meeting.
5. All participants shall be MCAA members in good standing. BAP submissions will only be accepted by the member that owns and maintains the species submitted, the species must spawn in that members tanks, eggs cared for by that member, fry raised by that member, BAP form completed by that member (assistance is permissible) and donation made by that member. Points will be credited after all information is verified and only once per species or subspecies of fish per MCAA member family.
6. Only species and subspecies recognized by Fishbase will be considered valid for BAP inclusion for all species. Only taxonomy from this reference will be recognized ON THE DATE BAP REPORTS ARE SUBMITTED. Later changes, subtractions or additions to taxonomy will be recognized as they are added or changed. No revisions will be retroactive for previously submitted spawns.
7. Pure species, defined as species not crossed with other species are permitted, Hybrids, defined as two or more species mixed to produce a specimen, shall not be submitted nor considered in the MCAA BAP.
8. To earn credit points, one of the following requirements must be met by the submitting member:
A. 5 fry between 60 and 180 days of age donated to the MCAA BAP.
B. Parents donated to the MCAA BAP.
C. Article of 600 words or more donated to the MCAA BAP, this article shall contain all relevant information about the spawn, if witnessed, the care of parents and fry, incubation method, conditions and foods/feeding frequency. These donations become the property of the MCAA to do with as seen fit by the Board, any article may be republished in other publications as the MCAA chooses, author credit will be provided.
When options B or C are exercised, the parents and fry/eggs must be verified IN SITU by a member in good standing of the MCAA from another household between the date of spawning and 20 days following spawning. The verifying member shall sign and date the spawning report of the submitting member.
9. One of the three requirements for BAP submission must be fulfilled completely before points will be awarded. Donations to validate spawns must accompany a complete spawning report on the same date to be credited.
10. The spawn date shall be recorded as the date the eggs hatch or the date of birth for live bearers. Best estimate for mouth brooding or egg-scattering species is acceptable.
11. Twenty Bonus points will be credited for C.A.R.E.S species (this is required for MCAA C.A.R.E.S. affiliation). Notification of successful spawns of C.A.R.E.S. species will be provided to the MCAA C.A.R.E.S. representative by the MCAA BAP Chair monthly.
12. Points earned by a MCAA member through another club's BAP are transferable into the MCAA BAP as a one time event, by special exception. The member must submit all documentation to the BAP Chair, he or she and BAP assistants will provide a recommendation to the MCAA Board, a unanimous vote of acceptance by the MCAA Board is required for this special exemption. The Board's decision is final and may not be appealed.
13. Any C.A.R.E.S. species and/or 20 point level species that will be submitted for points requires notification by the member of the BAP Chairperson within 20 days of spawning. The members spawning tank shall be made available to the BAP Committee to witness the eggs or fry, parents and spawning conditions. Both parents of this species must be present and alive for this examination to take place. The BAP Committee will provide an oral report to the BAP Chair.
14. Any dispute between a member and the BAP Chairperson concerning a species of fish will be passed to the MCAA Board within two weeks of the dispute for resolution. The MCAA Officers will return a decision within two weeks. The Board's decision will be final.
15. Revision of any BAP rules, species points assignments or awards levels is at the discretion of the MCAA Board. Any changes will be communicated to the MCAA membership within 30 days of this revision.
