Some info.,... we have never finished any swap/meet in 4 hrs. except for the first time we had a swap/meet, to my memory, and the Spring 2012 event was interrupted by the storm and then the time constraint of 4 hrs., thus there was club business never finished during said event.
I must also say here that I, as the President, represent all members and forum users, and I have had several to ask me about choosing a location to the North or West or South of Nashville for the next event, if we are not going to have the swap/meets in Nashville proper.
I have always said we need to have all swap/meets in Nashville proper so there would be no dispute of this nature, but that has never materialized. I have ask for input from fellow officers, and members/forum participants alike, and there has been no location, to date, set in stone, not only for the upcoming event, but for any permanent events. Not by anyone.
I have ask for a leniency of time so the members that I have ask to help, and myself, can make calls and contacts this week. How about more of you doing the same, with the goal of 1) central to Nashville, 2) $100 or < if possible per event, 3) free parking, 4) a 4-5 + hr. window of opportunity, 5) an indoor location capable of seating 50+ of us w/ or w/o tables and chairs.
If one wants to say that this should have been decided months ago, then one would have made proposals months ago.
I am only one person and have several members willing to make contacts and suggestions later this week and I have 3 contacts on my own this week.
To be pushed this way is not comfortable and I must ask for all to be aware of the lengthy process that this entails and the time committed to making such efforts on behalf of all of you. We need your help.
I have and continue to ask for all the members support on this issue, this week, so a solution can be had besides the only option being to have the next swap/meet, the Fall 2012 swap/meet, at the same location, and town, as many of you have reflected to me was a choice you would not choose again.
Again, I can be contacted via P.M., e-mail, text, and pH., should you desire, and I will respect your anonymity, should you still desire.

Me, or "ONE", thinks that this could have been proposed prior to fall. I have asked a few times before now, I think a month ago, but I can't help that "OTHERS" have 1992 technology and no other access to computers.
If "SOME" thought swap was in a bad spot "THEY" should have picked phone up and called places prior to "NOW" being almost "FALL". I thought the Park was excellent, and my proposal now is indoors which makes it even better. Plus playground will be open this time, and there is a basketball gym indoors at community center we can use.
Having said that, if "ONE" being "ANYONE" can find a better place in Nashville for same price, I am cool with that. I am not going to pick phone up and call, because I found a place under 10 minutes from Nashville proper border(Whatever that means).
I was 100% in favor of the zoo, even more so than place I proposed, but that never materialized. But don't BS everyone and act like "SOME" are putting in hours of labor finding a place, because if "SOME" are they aren't using the brain they were given to know it is a brighter idea to drive 10 minutes farther and have it done. Makes no sense.
So I am fine with my spot being a last resort, and I am fine with time wasted finding another spot instead of promoting swap at spot I found.
All makes logical sense to me. I think the basement of a church is a great place to have kids running around. If I were a kid, the second biggest playground in the midstate would suck compared to swimming in the baptism pool. The left over communion would be a big score for snacks as well.
Another great idea, we can cut swap time down considerably if we have 1 speaker. By number 2 and 3 no one is paying attention. If we don't cook and eat this time, that saves another hour or two so I am 100% confident that we can do swap in 4 hrs or less.
What scares me is it taking 6 months to put together a BAPS(once red tape was cut, it took about 2 weeks). So I may be wrong, but in my opinion it would be better for SOME to be looking for a permanent home in Nashville proper for future and take the easy choice this time. Then at swap we can let it be known where permanent home of MCAA swaps will be held and on what date.
THE END

This is to all, no one specific. I'm not in the clique or even if there is one but hope there isn't. This is JMO and I am the new guy, I do not understand all things "club" and I sure am not familiar with Nashville geography but here is what I do know: when I ran a club that was bigger than Nashville in square miles, we experimented with types of venues, locations, parts of town, different day and times to find out what worked and more often-what didn't work. The MCAA has experimented on meeting options but if we have met in the same general area multiple times, we need to move around to see where we can attract the most people. If we can do something central to Nashville, that is great, if it turns out one side of town or another works better, "working better for the club" is the goal here. Obviously we don't want to be in Crack Alley but other than that, let's experiment to have everyone have a chance to drive a bit or have a meeting in their literal back yard. This is only a fish club, it has to be FUN! Do not get personal here (that's what Facebook is for) it is unprofessional at the very least and it does repel potential members. My opinion is no more important than yours, probably less important but let's leave our personal feelings and desires to meet here or there. We DO need to wrap up and announce a meeting location very soon, my guess is this week. If you have an idea on where to meet, please share it right now, we want to have a great Fall swap!

We used vague terminology such as "One" and "SOME". That is in no way directed at anyone specific. I was speaking in theoretic no one specific terms and if my comments seemed to be directed at any individual I apologize.
But fact remains I posted thread asking about location and date in staff section on July 3, then again on July 13, again on July 25, Aug 19(with no response), Aug 22(ben david and myself) and then Aug 24 which is when I said Ben had called and found a date charlie daniels was open in a thread. Then all of a sudden everyone in the club is getting PMs on Aug 25 or 26 about finding a spot for the club??? Pretty coincidental
So I will now sit back and see how it plays out. It is frustrating and amusing at the same time.

To everyone else who either typed into, or read, or will read this thread.............
This thread was begun to encourage and inspire all of you to help find us a location for the Fall 2012 swap/meet !
I have personally contacted several places over the last few months and found locations to be to expensive, to remote to the interstate or town, to late in the day to serve us, or the answer of "no." There are a few others who have been searching as well.
I know there are several of you who had and have expressed interest in having the venue in a different part of town and those attempts have been and continue to be explored, even this week. There are 4 members among you that have been ask personally by myself, since they live and/or work in the Nash. area proper, to search for us a site.
I am not against the site Jon has proposed in this thread, but am giving all options a chance since so many of you have expressed a desire for us to do so.
This thread was not to be about Jon and I disagreeing. This thread is to ask all of you to step up to the plate to be an active member of the group and help find a location in Nash. proper. I realize many of you either live out of Nash. and /or don't work in Nash., and/or go to church in Nash., etc... but for those of you that do, ............. how about suggestions ?
This thread was and is to get you all involved in finding a location in Nash.. Will those of you that can ; step up ?

As long as we vote on it, my place included, I will keep quite. Just please start looking before spring for spring location. I am not anti other places either, but it is hard for me to promote swap when I don't have a time or a location. We are only disagreeing on location, when you have one.
So if we find another place this week, and vote next week, we are pushed to mid Sept. Before we can know when and where to promote.

I agree with Jon for the fact that our BAPs program is starting we need to be advertising 4-6 months in advance so we can for one have our own members schedule it so they can come but also in the past we have talked about trying to get outsiders to come to our swaps so that we can get them to our auctions and stuff. The more time in advance we promote means the more of an opportunity we can generate a bigger crowd. That way those $2 bags of fish in the auction may go for $4. Thats not a big difference but thats twice the amount and thats twice the money the club will make. To sum it up the earlier we promote swap means the oppotunity to get

I agree with Jon and Brian that we definitely need to start this process sooner. Lesson learned by the board and everyone really and will certainly be noted in the future so we can promote, advertise earlier.
And I also agree with Rick that since a large portion of our membership has expressed that they would like to have it at another location, we should try hard to find another option(s). I contacted three venues yesterday and have heard back from two - both of which fall into the category of "way beyond what we are able to spend at this time."
The search continues. As Rick said, anyone with ideas, please share them with the board or look into it yourself and give us a report. I am not familiar with Pitts park, but think an indoor location - given the time of year - would be best to strive for.
