i have a juvenile jd about 2 inch to 2.5 inches. he's gorgeous and my favorite fish but i can not stand the fact he will not have anything to do with me or anyone, he hides all day i sit at tank and talk to him i watch him i feed him but all he's interested in doing is hiding all day long! i've had him for a month now and not much has changed he chases my convict all day until someone walks into the room and poof houdini!

Jacks are all different. I have one that stays out a lot, but the tank is sparsely decorated. You may try reducing the hiding spots/decor if you want to see him more. Of course, this may be bad news for the convict if they aren't friends.

and david: i will give that a try the convicts interested in hiding behind the filters when the jack acts up so taking away some castles shouldnt take away from their hiding and should still keep peace in the tank.

Jacks are not the most interactive CA cichlid. It may be out more as it matures but will never be as active as some others. At 2.5 inches it is just a baby so give it some time to grow up and it will feel more comfortable in its tank.
