Hello everyone, new to the group. My name is Jason & I live in MJ TN.. I just tore down my 180 reef set-up & have converted it to freshwater. Really wanting to try my hand with some Festae, they look so dang good IMO. I'm looking for both festae fry & electric blue Jack Dempseys locally if anyone has exp with them. Thanks & looking forward to getting involved with this club.
Jason

Welcome Jason! Jgentry may be your man to talk to on here regarding those fish.
I did see a large EBJD at the Aquatic Critter the other day. 4-5 inches. Largest one I've seen make it personally. Maybe it's still there...that was a few days ago.

Thank you David for the welcome... I saw that EBJD @ the critter also. It was a nice fish, however I was hoping there was a local person here breeding them. I've always seemed to get better stock from local breeders than a LFS.

Welcome to the forum. I don't believe anyone close is breeding festae at the moment but they are readily available online and I can point you to some good breeders that ship.
EBJD's I would recommend avoiding. They are weak and typically not overly long lived and often have lots of deformities. There are some people that breed decent ones but in general I don't think you would be happy with them. They also would not mix well with festae. The festae would slowly but surely kill all of them.

John, I keep reading that abou tEBJDs, I'm kinda just thinking out loud anyway. Only reason I really even want a festae is I think the females are stunning color wise. However everything I've read says they are pretty much buttheads to all there tank mates & I really don't want my display to be jut 1 fish or a pair lol. I'm really wanting a hardy group of larger, active eye catching fish.
I saw a few pics of a almost blood red severum & it looks really good. Figuring out exactly what I want fish wise is the hardest part.

Festae do fine with many ca cichlids, you just have to match up the aggression levels.
Super red severums are nice if you want something more peaceful.
