Hi all,
So, eyebedam asked in the shout-outs what we can do to generate some traffic.
At first I suggested advertising, and Jon mentioned that it's been done and will be done again.. that's great.
Then I noticed that, in the stats, there are between 150-200 guests (or users not logged in) visiting every day.
I think that's pretty good traffic, but no one's posting anything. It's like people who walk into a nightclub, see no one's dancing, so they walk out.
If the people we already have will start posting, or answering posts, daily, then the traffic should pick up because it will give the visitors a reason to stick around, login, and talk.
I know I'm pretty much stating the obvious, but I thought I'd put it out there, to the group, that if we want to have it, we should work it, you know?
What are your ideas?

I'm curious as if the stats are not just there for show? As in the visitors & what not. I keep hoping to see some interesting threads & a lot of interaction. I've even thought of linking this site in some FB groups.

Obviously things are in rebuilding phase here. Yes, the more posts and replies the better. There was a time when there was constant traffic, we just have to get it back there through word of mouth, advertising, and current/daily visitors posting and replying more frequently. I'm not sure how accurate the "guest" count is. I stay logged in all the time, but I'm thinking it may be counting every time someone hits the site.

A couple of interest-builders I've seen (and made) work for fish clubs: fish and plant collecting in local waters, rock and driftwood collecting trips (very easy to get awesome rocks in TN), visiting a commercial hatchery (Wolf Creek Dam in KY is local to me), of course doing a tour of members fish rooms and pet shop hopping. I do not know if the MCAA has a Youtube channel but every one of these trips should be a video on there. My usual advice applies that regular meetings with a lively and varied presentations build interest and gain membership. Is the MCAA a member of FAAS? Getting current and potential aquarists away from the computer, out doing real things would be refreshing.

I like the YouTube idea. I've got a lot of fish videos on there. If you haven't seen paddysdaddy's YouTube videos you should check them out!

I like all paddysdaddy ideas. Any sort of fish-related meetings sounds like fun to me, and probably not only generate more interest from the outside, but also generate more conversation between the members.
In the meantime, I'm going to try to make an effort to post or respond to something every day. I have a tendency to get on forums and read the posts without every signing on and writing anything myself.
Does that make me a lurker?

Maybe just a little, however this forum seems like everyone's a lurker lol. You don't know how bad I'd like to have a FW club that's really busy & social. Where everyone can trade ideas, tips, tricks, fish & just have a good time..

I can waste a day watching fish room videos on YouTube. Nerd! But cool!

Haha! Yeah, when one of my friends came over and saw my fishtanks, she said, "You're such a geek!" And here I thought all this time that my penchant for fantasy novels, scifi shows, and my inability to accept low grades made me a nerd. When in all actuality, what I was missing was the fishtank!
