Hi Everyone,
I posted in another thread that I was looking into a club activity for us to do. I have finally heard back from them, and it's looking promising, so I thought I'd share and see if it's something you would be interested in doing.
If you've never been to the Nashville Zoo, they have a reptile house with a huge aquarium that houses cichlids, turtles, all kinds of creatures. What would you guys think of getting together, reserving a meeting room and having a one-on-one meeting with the aquarium keepers there? It'd be a social time for the group, a chance, maybe, to rebuild, and have an activity relating to fish-keeping.
I've talked to the events person. She's going to look into it and send me more details, but seemed optimistic about making it happen. Sounds like it would cost between 15 and 20 dollars per person, with a 20 person minimum. Regular zoo admittance is 15 dollars (which would be included in the event price), so it sounded pretty reasonable to me.
What do you think? Please respond even if you're not interested, or with your own suggestions, so I will know what kind of things the group is interested in doing.
Thanks and I'll post more details as I find out more.

That sounds very interesting. I'd be interested in hearing more about it.

I think it would be a cool event. Might have a hard time getting 20 to commit and actually show at this point until we bulk up in numbers again. But if everyone brought someone it would be cool.

Yes, getting 20 to commit would be key, and also trying to figure out how to get payments in and to the zoo...
But for now, I'm still just trying to get interest and waiting on more details from the zoo, then we can figure out other issues.

So, it doesn't look like there's a whole lot of interest in this. I've gotten three positive responses, plus me and a friend of mine is interested, but that's only five people. I did however, hear back from the zoo, so I thought I'd follow up just in case anybody out there was waiting. I copied and pasted what's below from the email I received. It looks like if we got the 20 people, it would cost about 22.50 a person.
Safari or Jungle Room = $14.95/person (min of 20 guests) - Includes all day admission, validated parking, room rental for two hours (choice of 3 time slots: 10-12pm, 1-3pm or 4-6pm), banquet tables and chairs, WiFi access, presentation screen, set-up/clean-up. ADD: - 20 minute private keeper talk = $50.00 - 20 minute talk from head curator = $100.00 - catering fees additional (see menus attached)
So, if there's anyone else out there interested, keep posting, and maybe it can happen.

I would be interested but my fall is pretty booked up with work travel os it's very unlikely that I would have time to do it.

i would do that for sure. if we bring family and kids, 20 people might end up being 5 or six families.

I kind of thought the same thing--it would make a fun family activity. My kids are still a bit too young (ages 2 and 3), but I'm pretty sure my sister would come with me and bring her daughter if she could. We just haven't had much response though.
It is something we can keep in mind...

What to tell me about life? Which turned out to be long. Only with grief do I feel solidarity. But until my mouth was filled with clay, only gratitude would be heard from it.
