F1 Kapampa male at about 5 to 6 inches - picture does no justice to the blue this fish has - guess my camera skills kind of suck!.

This is a FO male Kapampa that is about 11" (still can't get the blue from washing out in my pictures). It was a Beta male in a tank with a 13" Alpha male. Now that this one is the king of the tank, I am expecting a growth spurt. As pointed out earlier in this thread, Burundi types get enormous humps on the head. These two males that I have shown both came from Joesfish in Medina, Oh. Unfortunately, UPS crushed the molded fish box that they were shipped in. I had four frontosa in the order (2 F1, 2 FO) but a female 10" FO Kapampa was delivered dead. All the bags (tripled bagged) were leaking with about an inch of water left. These fish did not get floated - straight into the tank - PH and temperature were no longer the issue! Many people don't realize that UPS regulations state that they will only ship live animals (fish) overnight, but at the shippers risk. Insurance thru UPS is only for a lost package. FEDEX regulations state that no live animals can be shipped thru them.

Are you using a flash? If so, try to take the pic without flash. Use the tank lights for lighting. You'll have to turn out all the other lights in the room, and put your camera on a tripod or something that will keep it from moving because the shutter will be open longer to get the exposure it needs. Flash washes out my fish too so that's why I think it might be flash doing it.

Angel, I have tried with and without flash. The pictures are even worst without the flash. The camera does not have macro - I believe that is probably the problem. I have lights on this tank that can give the gravel a sunburn - as I said before "my photography skills kind of suck"!

Worse as in the blue washing out? You're not using a polarized lens are you? That'll dull EVERYTHING blue

What type of camera do you use. I stink too, I have to take a couple hundred shots to get a few good ones.

Maybe we need an impromptu fish photography session at the swap--I have a Canon XTi but it's still hard to get good photos! In 100 photos I get 10 pretty good ones.

My camera is a Sony Mavica - one of the first digitals. This camera is not like the new ones that you carry around in your shirt pocket. This thing is a beast - it could make the legs on a tripod scream! It takes the 3 1/2" computer disks. The one plus is that it is extremely hard to misplace it (it can double as a door stop - it is that big).
