Currently I have a Ehiem quaball, which I regret buying after discovering there are much better power heads online for way less.
Anywho... It had a 2-3in air tube that sticks out the top, I didn't like how it added the bubbles to it, so I took it off. I know that they decrease the GPH, so my question is; Is keeping the air hose on it worth losing the extra GPH or not?
Also, I am looking to get another power head, any recommendations? I don't want to get another eye sore that doesn't even have a high GPH rating.

I agree with you about the aquaball mig, they ehiem has some attachments that go with it for biological filtration and spray bars, but I haven't ever found the right parts. My problem with ehiem is horrible instructions. My favorite is the hydor korila or something like that. Mine moves 1200gph and is the kind commonly seen in the salt tanks.

I am a fan of the basic Penguin model powerheads. They are great if you are using an undergravel in conjunction with another type of filtration and are generally always quiet and last a long time. As far as water movement, I don't think you can beat the hydor korilia like Jon said. If you keep the venturi valve on your powerhead and keep it closed (i.e. no bubbles) you shouldn't be losing any GPH. The bubbles are good for aeration but since you don't like the look of the bubbles, you'd be good to just use something like a Penguin or Hydor Korilia to keep the surface agitated.
And yes, Jon, Eheim's directions are terrible - at least for the English speaking among us!

There is a guy in Nash. sellins some korilas on CL. Look for "72gal saltwater setup-Everything must go!" Guy is pieceing his tank out. might be able to find it and pick them up. Price was reasonable.

Yeah, I love my Eheim canister, so I figured the aquaball would be just as well. The looks and size of it wouldn't be such a big deal, but it just doesn't do a good job.Y our right Jon Ive been searching for "ALL" of those attachments they say are out there for it, but no such luck.

I'm a fan of Aqua Clear. You can't destroy these with a hammer! They are rather bulky but they work great. I have four AC70's all with venturi connected and quick filter attachment. I use the blue bonded filter padding from the Critter instead of buying the AC brand 'quick filter' sleeve.
