I was inspired by everyone's experiments with cinder blocks...here is my attempt! I am very pleased with how it looks. Even my husband, who was skeptical, thinks it looks pretty good. Our dining room table will block it anyway, but it does have a nice height that we wouldn't have had from a regular stand. Plus this only cost $35 with the paint--way cheaper than a new stand. My Boston girls are helping to model while we still set it up: What you see on the right is an open door to our hutch...not a part of the tank set up.

Great idea using the wooden shelf above the first row of blocks. I've used block stands before, but never thought of that.

The shelf was first put on the forum as an experiment by fishme. musiccitycichlids.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=tanks&action=display&thread=362&page=2There's a pic of his there. Dennis then did one for our 125 with a shelf where we could put two 10 gallon stands underneath for babies or whatever. Wouldn't recommend putting the tanks there, having tried it. Too tight of an area to work in. But it's great for stuff! All our tanks downstairs are now on cinderblock painted black. It made a huge difference and for very little money. See what you started, fishme? hehehe

That's good to know, angel. I think we'll probably set our canisters on the right shelf, since Ivy and Emily won't get their lookout if I put it in the left one!

Can't take their new domain away! LOL It's a great place to put canisters, and you had the forethought to make the outlet accessible . We put ours hiding the outlet, and it's extremely difficult to plug in and unplug when necessary.
