Last night I noticed that my African knife looked as though it was sheading his skin. I'm no expert in any fish so I thought it just may be part of what it does. Today when I got home from work he was dead. Laying on the bottom. I have super red severums and a big female BP. the BP was laying on her side on the bottom tonight. I did a 50% water change and added some gel-tek Ampicillin to the water. Now I notice that a smaller super red sev had his fins desolving. help me here, whats up and what should I do. Nothing new has been added, water changes regular. don't want all my fish to die...

It's not a good day for Gallatin fish keepers John . I came home to find a discus that I have had for 3+ years floating and my water looking terrible. My canister filter repeller had jammed and was no longer running. I had an air stone but apparently that was not enough. I did 3 striaght 80% water changes and the rest of them are acting normal now. They all looked like they were going to die 2 hours ago. I feel like I'm going to PUKE. Very disappointed at the moment. Hopefully the rest recover. I'm very sorry to here you fish are sick and you lost your knife fish. Do you have a way to test your water? If so test it. If not do you have a python system? If so do another water change of at least 50%. More if possible. Shedding skin is usually a water quality issue more then a desease. Clean your filters and do a big water change and see what happens and how the fish respond. Add aquarium salt if you have it and raise the temp to 80-82 if it not that high Are they showing any other signs. Let me know if I can help in any way. Hope you get things straightened out, J.D.

I'm beginning to wonder if there was something added to the water in several communities that caused the fish to deteriorate! Only my other tanks were fine. It just seems so strange. Maybe I caught it in time for the others and the angels were like a canary in a mine. Don't know. I'm really sorry guys. It doesn't help but I know the panic and disappointment you feel.

Lost a 4" rubber lip placo, 8" African knife, 12" high fin catfish, my favorite super red severum. All seems well now, did like 6 daily 60 to 80% water changes. cleaned out both filters, Put in some meds and took out all the decorations. Seems like it is all good now. The water wouldn't clear, stayed cloudy. all signs said parasites so I put in a dose of the tablets that act like Alka seltzer seems to have corrected it. Might have been due to a over population of mystery snails. I bought a couple loaches... thanks
