I had a tang. tank a couple of years ago. Will they go with Malawi or are the lakes water too different?

It is going to depend on the type of Malawi's you have (aggression, diet, etc).
The water makeup is different but if that is the only issue it can work, however I don't like mixing lakes but that is just me.
What types of Malawi's do you have and which shellies do you want to add?

I have 1 male sunshine peacock, and a red empress, and 3 yellow labs. I wanted brevis or the shellie calvus

I tried adding a 2 shellie calvus one time to a 125 gallon with peacocks (I know red empress is a Hap) and I never saw the calvus. They would hide all the time. So I would not recommend putting these fish in the tank. Now if you really want shellies it may be time to get another tank. They would do fine in a 20 or 29 gallon however, if you try to breed the brevis the calvus will most likely eat the fry. Joe
