3 days ago i noticed one of my wife's angelfish was getting gill curl i tested the water and everything was good so i added some salt . today its gill looks bad but the fish doesn't act like anythings wrong it swims around, eats and is the boss of the tank.we tested the water today 0 ammo. 0 no2 ,no3 was over 5 but under 10, Ph 6.8 and 4 dGH we did a 50% water change and cleaned one of the filters .1/4 of the tank is planted w/amazon sword and java fern . the only things Ive heard cause gill curl are high nitrate and low calcium Ive never had to deal with it before and need some help finding the cause and how to treat it

Over crowding, adding salt directly to the tank near the fish and infection are some of the causes of this, along with poor water quality and it can also be genetic.
If the hard cover of the gill is curled it is fatal because it will not allow the gill to function correctly.
check to see if the gills are red and swollen, if so it is an infection or gill flukes that is causing the problem and needs to be treated.
If the tank is crowded reduce the number of fish in the tank and do more water changes (two angels in a 20 gallon tank IMO is max).
If if is genetic destroy the fish in a human manner or if you keep it don't let it reproduce.
