I like my black backgrounds so no plans of a 3d one, but i would like to try to make some rock structures. Has anyone done this here before? What worked and what didnt? I plan an using styrofoam, any idea what kind i should use, and sculpt to the shapes and desired structure. I was going to paint and seal the styrofoam, but Fuzzy recommended quikcrete. So i think im just going to coat the foam with that let dry and im done. Any tips anyone could help me with?

yes I have made tons over the years. best way to do it is get the look you want from the styrofoam. mix #2cement with some crushed oyster shell (not over do it) make it kinda thick and apply. I sometimes would even throw some crushed lavarock chips and dust all over mine

oyster shell I got from lumber yard. ad for crushed lava rock I bought a bag from homedepot of the lava rock nuggets and take a few nuggets and smash with a hammer. depending on what kinda of rock you are going for you can also just use concrete and just add concrete color. just add to taste. I know they have a terra cotta color that really looks good.

Slate look? just use concrete, mix with Charcoal color mix. (mix a little heavy.) make sure to smooth surface well.
