Okay, so I'm a sucker for any good deals. Last week I told my wife it's time to buy more 10g and 55g tanks. 10g's will be used in my fish room. The 55's ... well just cause I want them lol. In the end I talked her into it.
So Searching Craigslist I found several people with tanks for sell. However, all of a sudden a new post shows up. "50g+/- with stand for $50 bucks".
Well clearly it's worth it, if it's in okay shape. At least this is what I thought before reading it. Turns out he didn't know if it was a 40g or a 50g. As well he was throwing in a complete 10g setup. It was worth a 15 minute drive to go take a look.
Upon arriving, I see the tank. It was a 55g tank, Stand, Filter, Extra replacement cartridges (brand new), heater, glass panels for the top, no light/hood, tons of decor, nice small to med sized rocks, Canister filter sitting next to it, cleaning tools, huge nets, and more.
I get to look at the 10g, complete setup. has everything and then some. In it, housed two black skirt tetra's, 4-5" comet goldfish, 2x 4-5" Koi, Fancy Goldfish (brownish red), 5" pleco, 3" pleco, and 2x cori's.
Took a deep breath and paid the guy. Started loading everything in my vehicle. Then he brought out more aquarium stuff for free. Additional cartridges, HOB's ... so much... ooh soo much. API test kits (the master ones), treatment meds, and more.
I finally get it home, unloaded nearly all of it. Still have stuff in the vehicle. Upon deeper inspection of the silicone I decide it would be best to Reseal the tank. As for a hood, I'll get a $15 one from Walmart that hold two 48" bulbs. I'll coat it with rust proof paint. As well decided to paint the back of the tank black and put a board up on the back for protection of the paint.
Here's my story and what I'm doing to it. As I go along and build this setup, I'll keep pictures and everything. My goal is to stock this tank with Piranhas... mostly due to the fact my state allows it and it can keep my community tank (guppies mostly) population in control. Which is the point of that tank anyways, feeder fish.
Also, I'll do an inventory of everything I received on this deal, the price of it and what I have to pay to do my modifications to the tank, as a running cost. Tonight during the NCAA final four I'll be working on the silicone. Sorry the tank is in my living room with my TV... works out great. ;D
