How big are these things supposed to get? Today we went to Franklin Aquarium to get daphnia for the new shellies. Of course we have to see EVERY fish. They had the biggest monster of a synodontis and I was under the impression they stayed small. How big are these things supposed to get normally? It was more than 6"

Depends upon which kind it was. Most can get 6-8" easily and some can get a lot bigger then that. Plus they are a tall bodied catfish so a 8" one looks huge.

It just matters the species and how much it is fed. Most of my syno multies are 4" at 4 years old, my angelicus is about 6-7" at 2 years old. Some get 10" and up. The one at the critter is a beast. So is the big pleco in that tank.

I can't look in that tank anymore the pleco really does give me nightmares. Dennis thinks it's funny. Well that makes the cute little catfish more interesting! And when they get bigger cichlids still don't bother them?

All of those fish in that oval tank are nice, but i do agree about that pleco. That fish is scary!

My syno eupterus cats are all pretty fair sized. I would say at least 4-5" and still growing.

I like Critter's Pleco. It was cool to see it move its eyes to look back at me like he was saying, "What you lookin at?" Where is Franklin Aquarium? I'm off this week and will be out looking for supplies for a 10g Betta tank. * @ Angel*

Franklin Aquarium is in Columbia. I love the Critter but never can find the supplies I need. For fish it's tons of fun. PetSmart and even WalMart has stuff. I'm sure the Pet Supermaket does too but their fish--well you know!

I have a syno angelicus that I've had for over 15 years. It's 9" to 10" long, but getting really thick in the body as it gets older. I have it in my 300 with a bunch of large haps. I really have to overfeed the tank for the syno to get any food. Big haps are real hogs.
