This is going to sound so stupid, especially since I had them coming out my ears when I only kept livebearers, but I have all these African spawns that work out great and what am I having trouble with? Guppies! The tank's stuffed with plants and they still manage to eat the babies, but not long ago I got three out and they're doing great. So the next mother that needed to deliver was not eating and was being still in the water a lot. I figured she was distressed so put her in with the three fry. She was so huge and her vent was open but nothing coming out. She died. I thought I could possibly save some of the babies so I did a "sea section" on her with a razor blade and expressed them out. They were HUGE and dead. Ugh! How can guppies be my problem fish?

Sometimes the easiest fish for advanced hobbiest are the hardest. Sounds like she was egg/fry bound (for lack of a better term). Sometimes keeping a little salt in the water helps with that. There is a an international club that breed and show guppies known International Fancy Guppy association.
Yes when I lived in Hendersonville I was breeding show guppies, but never showed. I lost all my fish to water problems before I figured out what was going on.

What sort of water problems? That's what I was thinking she was bound. She was very distressed and huge huge huge.

She was the one who was ready to blow when you were here. She's had to have had one stuck. the way her vent was open and she was so under pressure you could see the entire canal pushed out. Nothing could have been done, except maybe the salt like Joe was saying. Something to try for next time if necessary.
