Is the debate still going on, if this fish is a color variant of the Convict cichlid, or if it is a new species all together or am I thinking of a different Honduran Red point.

It's that one, but I think JD would be best to field that one. I can't keep up with the New Worlds it's brain overload! I do know there's two different kinds though. Or varieties. We have two here. Both were from JD. And I have to ask which of the kinds this one is, because I'm clueless, and we got it after we left JD's and went to Jons.

They are still undescribed but will be a new species when they are. There was a talk at last years ACA by Mitch Tobler about them. If I remember correctly they are genetically different but there is still some debate on what will be considered honduran red points as there are a couple of different fish in the hobby labled as such.
The cryptoheros/archocentrus group is in need of some work.

He looks settled in. He is probably a lot happier not living with africans.

He's happy but he lives with nothing but himself right now. There are some young HRPs here from JD though so sooner or later he'll get friends.
