I have two mated pairs of angels. They were together in a 55 but there was some fighting. Both had marks where they bit eachother so I separated them into pairs with eggcrate, put a little salt in the water and figured they'll heal. One male and both females are fine, but the other male is still not eating, and had white marks on his head which I thought might have been the start of ick so I treated with clout but it didn't make a difference. He's still not eating and one mark looks like a pit. Well, I hadn't noticed previously but yesterday I did--one of his ventral fins is ripped off. Could he just need more time to heal, and should I continue the clout or stop using it? Of course I keep the tank and water superclean so HITH seemed to be unlikely but now I do wonder since the one spot looks like a pit.

It's been a week since I separated them.

I am still leaning towards anchor worm(s). The growing pit points that direction also. Could be hole in the head disease, but I bet with the previous pimples and now the pit, I think worms. For what its worth, lateral line disease presents in a similiar fashion but usually about the gill plates or on their sides and not about the head. --------- Keep with the clout to kill the worms and I suggest some Binox by Jungle to treat for bacteria or fungus if he has been fighting and might have either of these two things going on as well. Good luck. I also think I might move him to his own tank and away from the healthy fish that remain, and do a big water change on their tanks as well.

Well, they were never raised. Never pimples. That's the thing. Just white freckles. I don't know. I just know he's not feeling great.

Well the good news is, it's ich. The bad news is, it took three of my baby angelfish dying after putting them in the tank the two pairs were fighting in to realize it was definitely that, and some of them are so salted with ich it's unlikely they'll make it. But I did clout them this morning and just turned up the heat so let's hope for the best.

Almost all the babies are dead. And my lone blue angel is dead. I'm done with angels! These adults needn't even breed! I'm so upset!

I have only my two pairs left. One pair is eating and one isn't. They're lively. And they look at the food. They just won't eat it.

The ich is all gone but they just aren't eating. And their poop is white to clear. I am not surprised since theyre not eating, but still it worries me more.

Thanks for trying to help Rick. Even if I didn't save them it's nice to have some feedback on what might be going wrong.

Give them live foom. I would keep young fry around when I kept angels. Fresh hatched red devil are great food. Unless they are in real bad shape they want be able to stop them selves.

I did try bloodworms once. The female ate them and the male took one in but spit it out. That's been a few days ago and he was still suffering with the ich. The cysts are all gone now. Other than missing the one ventral fin he looks normal. Do you think he might be tempted by guppy babies? I always have some of those.

Stringly white poop and spitting out food is almost always internal parasites from my experience. Even after treating sometimes it takes weeks for the fish to start eating again if they live. Most likely they have had them for a while, just the stress of fighting and breeding was to much and the succumded to the illness. Fish generally do not stop eating with ick unless it is really bad and adult fish almost never die from it. I personally prefer formilin. Much safer then clout and it doesn't harm your bacteria. For internal parasites I like a metro and prazi combo. Clout is good for fish with bloat in a hospital tank, I do not trust it on my entire tanks though.
