I have decided after seeing this fish for about 3 weeks at the critter he (or she) is mine, I will post pics after I get it tomorrow. It is called a sandy bottom monster. Grows to 8 inches and i love the little fish. Obviously no one wants it so it will have a good home with me.

Here it is. I put it into my guppy tank. So he will have plenty to eat. @ min after I took this pic he dissapeared. He went under the sand and you can barely tell he is even in there. He will eat well tonight I am sure. At least it does not have to be attacked by the south american cishlids he was in the tank with there. lol. Attachments:

Well, I can see why your everyday guppy lover wouldn't want it, but I can also see why you did. Neat looking fish. What the heck is it?

Ok there isn't a lot of info on this fish. It is Potamobathachus sp Batrachoididae. Also know as a toad fish.

I am guessing this fish will kick up a lot sand? Do you need a special filter for it, maybe like a sponge filter on the intake of a HOB/Canister filter so that sand does not ruin the impellor?

Yes it does kick up a bit of sand. The tank has a sponge filter rated for a 75 gallon tank. I have used it in that tanks for a couple of years and had no issues. Just an update my little monster has doubled in size since I got him. It is hard to tell cause all I see of him is the top of his head. I nudged him out of the sand and was very surprised at how big he has gotten. He eats his fill of ghost shrimp and guppies. I only have one male left and 4 females plus a plethora of babies. There were probably over a dozen in there when I got him. He also ate the oto in there with them. So no more algae eaters but there are a lot of snails in there to take care of the algae.

Thanks but right now i have plenty of the little things in that tank. I am hoping that the breeding ones will not get eaten too soon. But you never know it seems the monster likes the big ones. lol. Well I am preparing for tomorrows surgery. I have to be at the hospital at 7:30 and surgery is at 10:30. I am trying not to have any panic attacks between now and then. I will get in touch after I get home Thursday.

Just got in (late) George, and saw your comment about surgery tomorrow. Been out teaching tonight. Wanted to wish you good luck and a speedy recovery. Hope your surg. goes without a hitch. And maybe you'll log on before heading to the hosp. and read this. If not, I'll be thinking of you tomorrow and you can smile when you get home and can use the forum again. All the best !!!

I was at centennial till a couple of hours ago. I am home now. Having trouble swallowing but that should go away. I have a nice scar across the front left die of my neck. Yuck! Taking my pain meds to stay above the pain. I am already minus the pain in my shoulders. But the numbness in my left arm will probably take a Little longer. I will be down for 2 weeks them we sill see how it goes. I did manage to get all of my fish tanks water changed Tuesday so they should be good for a week. Then I wave someone here help me out. Hope to catch you all online.
