So today I check in on the Kribs and I notice for the first time in a few days she was hanging out in front of her cave. I grabbed a flashlight and peered in.... a bunch of little grey specs wigglin around in there! I've got flakes, pellets, and wafers all ground up with a mortar and pestle ready to go. This is her first brood. I hope she does good. ;D

Awesome! Keep us posted.
We picked up what we think is a female this weekend and got it in with the male. We'll see what happens.

Ive got about 12 or 14 free swimmers in one of my tanks, they are interesting to watch. My parents are very protective!

So far it looks like I have about 20 - 30 free swimmers. Yesterday was their first day out of the cave.
How long should I leave thhem with momma and poppa before I move them to a grow out?

Well out of the first brood there are 4 left. I honestly have no idea what happened to the others. One night I had approx 30 to 40, the next I had 5. Predation might have played a roll. I have a school of 10 Gold Barbs and 5 Swordtails in the tank as well. The female is also pretty easily distracted, so swooping in for a snack would't have been difficult. When I have another batch I may move them over to the 10 sooner. My remining 4 are still in the community, and are doing fine so I'm going to let them be for a while longer.

That's exactly typical . In nature, 10% survive. But we like to have more because we think they're so cute so we pull them and raise them separately. But hopefully those 4 are alive because they're the strongest, fastest ones of the bunch

Well, I've moved the survivors over to a 10G that I had set up for Swordtail fry. The fry tank is pretty thick with Java Moss and caves, so they have plenty of hiding spaces to help em feel secure. The day I posted this another one apparently was gobbled up. I only had three that evening. They've all been in the 10G for about 2 days now and appear to be doing fine.

The fry have been in the 10G going on a week now, no further losses. I'm assuming most of the casualties were from pedratio. Equal parts tank mates and filter possibly.

The 3 suvivors are going strong in the 10. One has went his own seperate way while the other 2 stay together. All three are eating healthy and will be graduating from powdered flakes to crushed flakes tonight. I fed them some frozen daphnia a few days ago and they handled that just fine. Crushed Omega1 should be no problem at all.

Glad to be reading the positive progress of the survivors ! Maybe you will raise up yet another pair to continue your line.

Davidtcb1, Did you ever have any success with your hopeful pair including the female you picked up @ the store a while back ?
