Angels have been so domesticated, they can be kept in hard alkaline water. Some of the breeders on the Angelfish forum have very hard water even. I keep them in water that is soft and slightly acidic. I start with RO water and add a mixture of all the ferts for plants that makes the water about 50ppm. My water out of the tap is moderately soft (100ppm) so if I have to use tap for W/C it's not shocking or anything. But I'm a control freak and I like to know what's in there!
