I've been hit by something that presents as columnaris and septicemia, but antibiotics didn't help. Here is the facebook link that all the pictures are at. I've updated and added lots of pictures too. www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2097490&id=1403375997&l=8465b4183bI've been discussing the problem with people all over in different forums, but I wanted to let you all see what's going on in case you had any suggestions. I've treated with antibiotics and I'm alternating now to antiparasitic meds. I've got one more treatment of that tomorrow. Then I'll do a different antibiotic. There are definately bacterial problems, but there seems to be something else too. Some think viral, some think parasites... some think I should cull my whole operation! I've already lost or culled about half of my fish. I've got my whole operation now consolidated down to about 260 gallons and 6 tanks.

That sucks, have you tried clout? When in doubt, O.D. on clout. If you were not in such bad shape I might not suggest it, but in your circumstance I would set up a large hospital tank and try it out.

Clean water is your only hope not. I would do a 50% every day for at least the next week. Your filter is most likely dead for the meds. You have a system wide problem. your best hope is for the fish to fight it off. The only way form them to fight it off is great water not good but great. You need to up your filtertration. You will lose some more fish. dont over react. and just throw meds at them. I know it is hard but for the only thing I would add is some salt and I would dump the water like crazy. Good luck

I've been doing huge water changes and salt. I haven't tried clout. I have the parasite clear tank buddies which treat hex. I have metro-laced food too. Next though I think i will feed immune booster flake and treat with antibiotic bath. Things seem to be a little better today.

Keep up the water changes. Just rember it will take time for your filter to build back up.

Another reason plants are so awesome... They can take care of the biological filtration when no bacteria are present, or killed from overcleaning, medicating, or setting up brand new tanks.

By the way, I just learned that the actual medications in Clout are Metro and Malachite Green. Metro is the med for internal hexamita, and malachite green is for the external sores. At least, that's what I understand it's for. There's another thing for increased blood flow and some inert chemicals as well.

Reagan is right, if you have used medications over a long period your bio will eventually die off, couple that with tank/fish consolidation clout might hurt more than it would help. A strong clout treatment could be the final nail that kills all your bio. I normally use Metro first, and if that first treatment doesn't work I put fish in a hospital and go straight to clout.

Well, I think it's over. I don't have any angels with illness symptoms. I do still have a few other cichlids that don't quite look right, but not obviously sick, might just be stressed. But since the sickness that took most of my angels seemed to only affect the angels, I'm thinking it's time to do a reverse QT. Maybe in the next week or so.
