Hi everyone! New here. I'm located in Smyrna.
Well, currently I have a 29g and a 10g set up (for tropical) but the more and more I read about native tanks the more I want one!
So, just curious, anyone near me have a tank set up? What do you have? Where did you buy/catch it?
Thanks!

Welcome! I don't have a native tank, but hope you find what you are looking for here. We are happy to have you.

I have a native tank. You can sometimes find natives on aquabid, but they are natives mostly in Alabama, Florida and Georgia. The best is to go in the spring and catch your own natives. We have some really great looking natives here in Tennessee. And it is great fun to catch them yourself.

Thanks!
I fully plan to go out and catch myself. Always fun! When I kept reptiles I spent a great deal of time 'field herping' for them. Loads of fun and you never knew what you'd find.

That is the fun part of going out and getting your own. You never know what you might get.

Exactly! Oh, I'm off next Monday and Tuesday, so I should be able to get those fish and such we've been talking about through e-mail, unless you'd want to meet at the mall sometime this weekend.

Also, has anyone kept clams? I've been considering getting some for my tropical and future native tank for the extra filtration, plus I hear they are pretty interesting to watch siphon the water. From what I've read you can acclimate them pretty easily to warmer water so should work in a tropical tank.

Next Monday or Tuesday would be fine. This weekend I am busy with shipping on Saturday then just chillin with the hubby. Sunday we are going to my daughter's house in Gallatin. I will be home and working with my tanks Monday and Tuesday I will have 4 more tanks to get painted and set up also so I will be here both days. I will email you my address. I have had both clams and mollusks. They are pretty easy to keep as long as you do not have any heavy metals in your water. Like lead plant weights etc. That will kill them in no time. I use to really like watching them. I can point you to some sellers that are good for buying them from. Or if you are out collecting and find some that would work too. I know we have them in our waters. I am planning on buying some pretty soon myself.

Thanks, that should work out!
I'll probably go out and collect some. I know I don't have anything metal in my tanks so I should be good. And just acclimate them like I would fish or would I need to do it a special way?

you acclimate them the same way you would fish. Nothing special needed for them. I think they are great and really help in keeping your tank clean.
