I have eight L-183's in a 40 gl breeder. Bought them on Aquabid from Snookn21 about three months ago. Lost one after a week. I have three large pieces of Mopani wood that keep the water "black". My PH is 5.9 - 6.0 and I change about 25% of the water every week. The water that I add has a PH of 6.3. I also have a few bottles of Black Water Extract, but have not had to use any since the Mopani is leaching pretty good. I believe that you can set your tank up any way you want. Add some Mopani and/or Black Water Extract and you should be good. Make sure that you have some wood in the tank - they are like termites. Also give them areas to hide in. My 183's don't hide as much as they used to. Don't know if they are getting used to me or if they are getting territorial under the Mopani wood. Out of curiosity, are you going with the 183's (commonly called "white seams") or with the 182's (commonly called "starlights").
