Hey everyone! I am so excited that my peacock recently spit her babies on her own but now I'm worried because she's wanting to eat but keeps spitting out the food. Is this normal? Anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks! Jess

Stress is likely. She could be bloating over it. Watch for other signs. Is she isolating herself from the group? Is she seeming puffier than usual or anything? Threadlike poop?

This is if you're sure she's not eating. There's always the possibility she's making the food smaller for the babies to eat. Is she still with them?

She is still with them and I haven't noticed any symptoms of bloat. I never thought about her making the food smaller for the babies. That could be a possibility. I am wondering if I should remove her from the tank because she keeps chasing the babies. What do you think, Angel? Thanks again for your continuous help!

As long as she's not nipping them it's ok. But they really don't need her at this point. I usually put my mothers back in the main tank pretty quick. Some prefer not to, but I've never had an issue, other than they could spawn right away again.

She might not want flake food since she has "sushi" swimming around in the tank - just kidding!

Good news! She's eating now. Not sure why she was having trouble the other day but it's all good.

Feed frozen brine shrimp or kill in small doses until she regains strength.
