JD, are you using a smaller version on your pond or is this the same one ? rick, what size tank or pond is your fx5 on ? I use a pond filter for a 5000g outdoor pond on my pond. I have an FX5 on my 220g with a sump.

FX5's setting in garages? Say it ain't so. If you decide you want to sell it let me know. They are a pain to clean but are by far the most efficient canister filter on the market. They can handle a huge bioload and really only need to be cleaned 2-3 times a year. Unless you have big back CA's Once or twice is more than enough.

Great tank Moto! What is the piece of equipment to the right of the heater? Filter intake? Internal filter?

I set up my fx5 and like it...honestly all my canisters are fairly low maintenance. I cleaned out one of the XP3s on my front tank for the first time in over a year and it was barely dirty. Even the one on my red devil tank wasn't horrible. The fx5 is on a 30" tank and not moving sand or anything, but it is a really strong current.

I will post more pics and he has the most amazing fish i wish i lived closer. I tell everyone i run into about the club and riftfish. people are scared to get fish because the old school filters and such. Also not knowing that you DONT put your fish in a bucket and use tap water and scrub your rocks and filter. how crazy we are.
courtneys planted tank is a cube 27 marainland she did a great job on it.

Hey Mike. just a FYI......the guys b-day today listed on the forum is from Knoxville as well, but he has not posted here in a while now. i have written to him and hope to get a response. Will let you know if i do. I have found several other names here who are from Knoxville also. Trying to reach some of them. You are not the only fish guy who lives up your way. If I can find any of them, you'll be the first one I tell. WE look forward to more pic's. And, yes, there are folks all the time who need to hear the basics. We experienced folks gotta keep telling them, so they can be successful. Tell Courtney I think her tank looks awesome. Later man.

No, i will be keeping it I just did not think about it being able to fit the FX5 in the cabniet door in my show tank. This made cleaning it a huge pain because i had do clean it all out under the tank stand lol.... I will be using it in the garage (fish room) for a 55 gal tank ,or i might swap it out for the 2 smaller canisters on my 180gal tank and use them on the 55gal. I agree the water did stay alot clearer on the 100gal in the house ,but there was just to much water movement for sand! ,and that tank had Xeno's ,multies ,and Gold occys in it ,and it was really making it hard for them to keep thier shells from filling up with sand.

I added this to my FX5 because I did not care for the stock one.... the Cyprichromis loved to swim in the jet ,and it pushed water from the right side of my tank to the left . I did not install mine on the back of the tank though i installed mine on the side so i could push water across the complete surface of the tank 60" Just an idea! for all you FX5 owners. here is the link a build close to mine. www.thereeftank.com/forums/f76/diy-fluval-fx5-spraybar-160622.html

Once again, another great suggestion from one of our own. Between the members, we must have hundreds of ideas, of how to make things work better. Just another benefit of being a member and new friendships, huh ?
