The moss ball is like moss you would find in the woods...java moss is more plant like, but it does put out lots of green creepers and grows on driftwood/rocks/basically anything. I have it in my tropical and shrimp tanks as it is great cover for fry. That's what I was thinking. Thanks for the more detailed explanation Allison. Don't think I've ever heard the cotton trick glen. I read about it today in helping moss (not java) to stick to hard wood They were saying that because the type of moss i was looking for is hard to tie down because it really has nothing to tie to. 1.) place moss on the driftwood 2.) lay cotton over the top of the moss 3.) than wind thread around the wood and cotton. 4.) cotton disolves and the moss should be rooted. not sure if it works or not worth a shot i guess. I saw some stuff on ebay also i might order the following. Star moss fire moss (or something like that) and a few moss balls (not java) then i can play around with it in a 20 gal to see what happens

Some really neet tanks I saw on the net!!!!! wow now this can take fish tanks to a whole nother level! I could just see my cyprichromis simming in a tank like these!!! with some occies hidding in their hisdden moss covered shell caves! And this is the kind of moss i was looking for!!! is really kool but I am thinking taht is a type of alge maybe a black beard alge? or maybe the moss balls... the picture below
