When I went on my trip, all fish at my fishroom where totally fine. At my house, it is another story(lost a lot of fry). But while I was gone, the dehumidifier went out. Humidity got up over 90% and I had a pretty massive outbreak of mold. I have spent the last couple of days wiping everything down with bleach. I am shutting my house down minus about 6 tanks and I am moving my dehumidifier and putting it on a separate breaker with humidity level set at 5% higher so if one shuts off I have a back up.
I will probably get an air exchanger at some point, but I was attempting to hold off for a while. Anyway, moral of the story is that a lot of you and me have fishrooms inside living space and not in a detached garage. Be aware of humidity levels because if this happened in a living space, it could have been a major issue.
Since I got back, humidity has been at 50% and mold has gone away a lot on its own.

Yes, I have lost major fish before on trips. It always happens, electricity is fine for 3 months, out of town 9 days and the power goes out on day two. My sister came by on tues and thur and fed them. She turned the dehumidifier back on, but bucket filled up. It needed to be in pump to waste mode.

Wow. we have never had to run a dehumidifier, but our tanks are kind of spread out too. I have had a couple filters press against the wall and damage the drywall in our new house, which made me mad (at myself). Hope the cleanup is all that was needed to get rid of the mold.

it has decreased substantionaly since it has been under 50% humidity. I am still adding my dehumidifier for back up. It took me by suprise because i have never even had a lid until recently.at my house and my dads all tanks are covered.
