I am setting up a 65 gallon tang tank. I have a fuval fx5 for my 125 gal. any suggestions for filtration on the 65 gal.? Rick, for me I really love my Aquaclear 70 overflow filters for my smaller tanks ,as I am sure you saw when you came over lol. I love how easy they are to keep up ,and the flow ajustment is nice. Canister filters are always good but cost more ,and a pain to clean IMO. On my 100gal in the house I have 2 Aquaclear 70's ,and the Med size cascade canister that I only use for a BIO filter and the spraybar lol... its like a big Powerhead (only because It was a spear not being used) my Aquaclear's also keep the top layer of my water moving! Where when i was using only a canister filter before I would sometimes get a slimy coat over the top layer of the water. my 100gal is a long tank so keepng all the water moving across the top was a pain before the aqua clears were added. Yeah i have over Kill filter on the tank but the fish love it lol... I know some people dont care for Overflow filters but I have always loved Aquaclear they have Nvr let me down over the passed 15 years of having tanks. plus if one breaks its only $50 to replace it =)

I'm always giving a thumbs up to the Rena XP series canisters. Never had a problem with them in the five or so years I've been using them now. The smaller Fluvals are also nice, though I wish the plastic valve assembly at the top was constructed better. Pretty fragile. I like the job Eheims do, but don't like messing with them in terms of getting them set up, maintenance, etc.

I run a Cascade 1500 on my 125 (along with the sump). I haven't had any trouble with it and it was a bit cheaper than an equivalent Eheim or Fluval. I have 3 sizes of these, and the smallest one has always leaked, and I hate the way the screw on tubes work I always have the hardest time getting them to screw on stright.... major pain. but they do seem to keep the tanks clean ,and have nice flow. I wish that fuval would make a smaller FX5 ... i really love that filter it just has way to much flow for a 50-90gal IMO
