During the many hours of no sleep last night, due to nerve damage in my right elboe, i was think about moving some of my fish around to different tanks. Right now my 125g is severly understocked. I have 6 ps perspicax orange caps, 5 lab hongi, 4 zebra long pelvic, 2 rubber lip plecos and 2 syno ocellifer which i have been thinking of rehoming. These fish are really happy in this tank and i have fry coming out of my ears. Now these fish are a little on the more aggressive side and was wondering how that aggression and spawning behavior would change if i moved them to a 48" 72g bowfront and turned my 125g to a tang tank. If you dont think this is a good idea then ill leave those fish in the 125 and add some more fish to the tank and turn the 72g into my tang tank.

I think it would really ramp up the aggression, but if you rocked it really well, it would probably work out. The fighting would probably only be bad at first as they establish new territories. My husband and I had a Mbuna/Hap 125 and it was setup at my mom's house because we were waiting for our new house to be built. Long story short she overfed them and over half of them died off from disease. We decided at that point to put our Fronts in the 125 and put the remaining Mbuna/Haps in the 75 where the Fronts had been growing out. They did absolutely fine, and it was a very aggressive mix of fish (m. chipokae, p. crabro, lots of zebra types, etc). Now if you don't want to do a fish like Fronts, I would probably keep to your existing plan and just add more Mbuna and/or Haps in the 125. I think shellies, julies, cyps and the like would be just as fine in a 72 as a 125. But I know most of the Tang lovers probably won't agree with me. If you want to go big and bad, Fronts need the big space in the long run. Tropheus would be another option in a tank that size. Either way you are easily talking $500+ in fish.

Since this is my first time im messing with tangs im going to stay with some of the smaller ones, but was wondering if i did put them in the 125 could i add some of the more aggressive smaller ones since there will be more space to claim tertitory and easier to break up the shell bed, rock work and open sand/water

I'm one of those Tang lovers, and I also lean towards more water per fish, so you know what my suggestion will be . A 125 with some lepidolamp shell-dwellers, some leleupi or cylindricus, gobies, that size tank lets you go with jumbo cyps, which really opens up those options... I think a 6' tank is a great size for a tang community. It also opens up more options for some of the sand-sifters. -Rick (the armchair aquarist, who really wants a 180 (or a 240?) for his tang community)

lots of rocks and they will be fine. you have enough fish that aggression should be dispersed.
