When you take a pic of your fish and you use a flash, if you do not angle the photo you will get major flash reflection. If you do want a straight on shot get as close to the glass as possible. If you try both of these methods and you still have a reflection- Crop it. There are other ways such as adding lighting to top of tank. When I take pics I like the light in the tank to be the only light, so I turn everything in the house off and go to town. I am not an expert though so if any one is please help us out and add to this thread.

When using the external flash it's easier here. Turn the flash up til it just angles over the top of the glass. Then there's still light from the flash but not direct. We use a SpeedLite 530EX. I'm lazy though and often will just use the built in flash on the camera rather than get the flash out.

Angel, what do you think about the flash ring that goes on the lense? I think sigma makes one.

I've never used one. It wouldn't be practical for wedding shots like we mostly do. But I'd have to see the amount of flash it's putting at the subject--it seems to me the flash being right there by the lens could make everything overexposed. I could be wrong on this.

That's a good point, I don't know either and I wish I did.

The reason we use a Canon 40D is because of our business. We didn't buy it for the fish. We also provide wedding photography.
