I got 6 dozen multi from Mark at the swap. They are doing great and have already seen a few fry, but in the last week or so i have only seen 5. Should i worry or do they hide for a long period on end?
Also if i wanted to requascape the tank how would i go about that since whenever i do something to the tank the go into shells.
Lastly, when the time comes and my colony starts to get to big for the tank how to i go about catch these fish since once again they hide in there shells.

What type filter do you have on the tank? They are probably hiding, but could have been sucked up. To my knowledge, mine havent ate their fry. When getting rid of them, you just have to know that there could be more than one in a shell.

Catching them is cake you take out the shell with them in it =) also when they are breeding the female will some times stay in the shell gaurding the eggs for a few day. The Multies dont eat thier own ,but they males will sometimes get in to some bad fights ending in death. also some times a male will stay away from the alpha male and make a cave under a rock look for small openings around rocks and plants.

Is it bad to reaquascape a multi tank that is starting to colonize?

Is it bad to reaquascape a multi tank that is starting to colonize? Mine seem to do fine if you just move a few shells out to remove fish, almost like they really never noticed. but as far as a full reaquascape it will take a day or so for them to get back to norm. ;D

I got 6 dozen multi from Mark at the swap. Whoah, did I read that right? Last time I kept multies they didn't seem to care for it when i did big moves/cleanups of their shells. I think I may have lost a few fry when I did it, but the adults just set up shop again, and started digging their pit after the dust settled. With my current setup I'm not sure they'd even notice if I moved their shells around! Then again I don't know what it would accomplish either so I won't . -Rick (the armchair aquarist)
