Okay I have a fluval 303 that i'm repairing, probably for personal use, but the impeller stem/shaft was broken, so I ordered a new one and the impeller still rattles around makes a ton of noise, do I need water for it to work correctly, I'm basically just wanting to make sure it works at all before I go through the trouble of setting it up, any ideas on what it could be?

I know it's not good to run them dry, but I have 3 others and none make such a racket when I plug them in, just wondering with such a simple device if more could even Be mechanically wrong.

Possibly, but if the impeller is new it will probably be fine once water gets in the mix.

Problem solved, it was sand in there not letting it seat properly, guess I didn't get it all cleaned out.
