I could use some advice on moving to canister filters, I currently still use my Millennium 3000 on my 75 and an Aqueon and a Biowheel on my 14, I also have a UGF on both....that's right I still have my UGF, but it works and I haven't lost a fish in years. But I'm getting ready to make the switch and I'm thinking of going Fluval FX5 for my 75 and the Fluval 204 for my 14, I know it may seem overkill for my 14, but for my purposes the more filtration the better, I've done plenty of research and seem people curse and praise every Fluval, Eheim, and Marineland out there, but I just wondered what you guys thought.

I have a Magnum 350 with a bio-wheel and aFX5 on my 90. Love them both. Added the FX5 about 3yrs ago. I put a coarse pad in bottom basket with a bag of ammo. carb. The other baskets are full of bio-balls I got from my local FS for $5. Would definitely buy the FX5 again. IMO they are worth every penny. Jon just bought one more recently for his big tank. See what he thinks!

Josh,
I have an Eheim 2217 on my 125 and it's doing a great job so far. It came with the tank when I bought it. The guy I got the tank from is a professional aquarist, maintaining tanks for several businesses in Nashville. That tank was crystal clear and remains so. The unit is also silent. I have to look at the water outlet to tell it's running.
I bought a spare 2217 from him, too (he was getting ready to move). It's freshly cleaned and ready to go if you are interested in it.

I have never had a Cascade. I have experience with Eheim, Rena and Fluval. All three are at the top of the industry.

Been using a Rena XP2 for 2+ years and it's been great. Very quiet. Low maintenance. I'm the type that reads and researches way too much before I buy something and I have always seen good things on the Renas, Eheims, and Fluvals. Heard the Cascades were good buys and performed well, too. Seems like all the name brands are good.

If you want a good canister filter you really cant go wrong with the FX5 ,and u will not be doing as much maintaining it as with some of the smaller ones. plus the flow is so nice it really moves water.
