Hope you're not disappointed to find out I am talking about loaches in this thread. Our esteemed president Rick stopped by last week and seemed to really take a liking to my male clown loach, and wanted me to get a picture or two of him since he is so easy to sex. The males (so I have read) have a claw-shaped tail. I keep five in a group, and one of them has a very definite claw-like tail that is larger than his tank mates' tails. Here are some pics of him, and of him with his lady friends so you can see the difference. Here he is by himself. And here are two of him next to others so you can see the differences in their tails.

JUST AMAZING FISH AND PHOTOGRAPHY !!! Thank you for sharing these pic's Guy ! Maybe you should have saved one for the contest next month though. Or,...what the heck, post one of these.
I have 12 of these clowns myself divided into 3 separate tanks, and mine are of similar size to Guys, but none of mine have this distinct caudal change, or claw like or lyretail like tail. I had never read this about there possible sex distinction and found it a fascinating fact. I have read over the years that they have been rarely breed in captivity, and the only reports of them breeding in captivity has been with the use of hormone injections. They are beautiful fish, and good for eradicating snails too.
Someone once said here on our forum, on the subject of snails and loaches, that they had another type of loach that they found was good for eating unwanted snails. What kind of loach was that,... somebody ?

...Maybe you should have saved one for the contest next month though. \ Thanks for the nice words, Rick. I have a different picture in mind for the contest. And next time I describe his tail, I am going to use "lyre-like". Thanks for that. That's a much better way of describing it. (Unless I'm trying to impress someone, then I'll go with "distinct caudal change." )

The Yo-Yo would live good with Angels, Rams, Kribs, BN Plecos, Guppies, etc... correct ? I am thinking you are talking about them being a snack to Africans or large S.A. and C.A. fish. Correct ?

Thanks for re-freshing my memory of the name of this loach stoney. This was the name I couldn't remember.
I have googled the YoYo Loach this evening. It does indeed have a repor of relishing snails according to all the different articles on them. They also have or go by several different names. So,... I decided to see what other breeders on Aqua-Bid had to offer and listed every name, common and latin versions into the search engine on AB. As of today, there are lots of loaches for sale, but none by any of the names I found and tried.
Also, it does appear as I continue to read, that this particular loach is the one, of all the loaches, that will consume the most snails for a hobbyist, when they are young. It is reported as they grow and age that their appetite for snails deminishes though.
Does anyone here know,...is this a common loach to find and I have just looked for it on a day when none are listed in my search, or is this a rare loach to find ?

Thanks for advice. I have used our link on the forum to check their site today, but they have none listed as having come in in the last month of so. I will call them before making a trip.

It is one of our more clever titles, isn't it ? Should he get a karma point for thinking it up all on his own ?

Botia almorhae, as I am told they are called ----- $6.99 ea. + tax minus 10% @ Critter and they have 2 and more ordered for next week. On line I have found them from $3.50 to $9.99 ea. plus shipping. Even the $3.50 ones don't give an exact amt. of shipping, but they do say they offer P.O. shipping if I buy a heat pak. Many of the others I found are charging airport to airport fees of $35 to $99 per box. Only the $3.50 ones even come close to being affordable, so I think the Critter has a sell next week sometime. Still none listed on AB. Interesting to note, I have found 4 different names being used for this fish interchangeably on the net, in various places. Chris @ Critter is who told me, today, the name I listed in the beginning of this post is the correct name.

I just picked the one easier to type.
