I agree, it's a costly filter, up there with full on RO units just no water loss. I'm sure you could find a cheaper substitute if you shopped it. That's just one I had actual experience with.

Sorry to hear this man! i lost about 200$ worth of tropheus a few weeks ago because A heater broke ,and i did not pay attention to the temp in the tank. Tropheus dont do well in low temps it causes them to have digestive problems, and die.
I have a few questions about what happened.
1.) you said when you got home they were dead. When was the last water change you did before finding them dead? 2.) For my cyprichromis tanks I do 1-2 water changes a week to keep them happy. Cyprichromis and Xenotilapia are very water sensitive ,and have to have clean very clean water. If i do only one water change a week I do a 45% ,or if i do 2 water changes its 20%. Cyprichromis will breed most time right after a water change if they are or age.

hang in there man. we all go through it. I had a fish kill a few years ago and lost over $1000 in fish I had just had shipped in a week earlier. My ammonia was off the charts and turned out I had a large dead fish under a rock that had caused it. I got out of the hobby soon after but then a while later there I was having to buy everything again
