I found the forum link while looking at pet ads on craigslist. It seems I made the incorrect assumption that "Music City" was my music city, Austin, TX. It still seems a nice forum.
I have been in the aquarium hobby almost 20 years. My first job at 17, I went to work for Armke's Rare Aquarium Fish, an african cichlid importer who shipped to hobbyists nationwide. At the time I knew relatively nothing about cichlids, but quickly got a crash course in scientific names and identifying them on sight! Armke never labelled any of the tanks since our inventory turned over so quickly, and none of cichlids he brought in were the common types. I still have a synodontis sp. "Whami River Blue" I bought while working there, I have had him about 9 years now. I have been employed for the last 8 years at Rivers and Reefs Pet Center, a small store here in Austin.
I spent my teenage years breeding bettas, angelfish, and guppies, and my late teens learning africans, since then I have remained immersed(Ha!) in the hobby primarily vicariously through our store's aquariums.I had also picked up another hobby in my early twenties, breeding and showing birds(english budgies, cockatiels, zebra finches).
Lately I decided I wanted to get back into fish as a hobbyist and have been working on converting the closet in my birdroom into a fishroom. My intended project isthe raising and showing of guppies.
Well, I think that's a pretty good bit about me, look forward to talking with everyone on the board!
~Rachel
