I'm glad it's two males, because when we got them at the Critter the guy with the pony tail was trying like crazy to get us to buy two with more blue on them saying they were male because of their fins. We stuck to your advice and bought these.

Very wise. There are some good people there and most know a decent amount of stuff but I don't trust any of them when it comes to CA cichlids.
And m/f JD's have pretty much identical fins. They look a little different when mature but when young you cannot sex them that way. You were smart to pick those 2. Look at your females and your males and see if you can tell much difference in there fins.

I think the best way to get a pair (if that is what you want) is to buy a group of 6 younger fish, let them grow up together and let them pair off naturally. When the breeding tubes come out you will see that the males is pointy and the females is blunt. Also by the natural paring you have a better chance of having a more compatible pair IMHO.

They're scuffling now. The one male likes the one female and doesn't like the other. They were liplocked. Nippy. The other male doesn't show any interest at all in anything but food.
