Does anyone know if these are same sex or a pair?

These little guys are not the easiest to sex. If they get along and hang out together then they are almost certainly m/f. Very few CA cichlids get along that are not pairs and theres a lot that are pairs and still won't get along.
With that being said if I had to guess I'm saying the one on the left is male. It has the typical male shape and looks to be male from the little bit of vent I can see. The one on the right looks to be female. If you look at it it's face is slightly shorter and its body is more rounded.

They hang out together. One defended the other a couple of times. Which one would be the male?

They're getting a lot of color in their fins. A blue almost purple cast. They got really pretty.
