I don't think I could kill him if I tried. He has bit the crap out of me a few times. He has grown big time in a short time. It won't be long until the bite hurts pretty bad.

I've heard that morays have one of the strongest biting forces on the planet. At least it isn't the more ill-tempered green moray! I have to ask: why the heck are you sticking your hand in there anyways?? They have magnetic scrub pads for algae cleaning, and use a pair of "grabbers" (I don't know what they are called....the pair of "fingers" attached to the end of a short pole that grabs things) to place coral frags. SAVE YOURSELF FIRST, Bud!

29g. I am looking to upgrade, but don't want anything over a 40. I might go with the same size, just the led version.

They are pretty cool systems for what they are, and if you keep on top of them.

I saw that same show on TV when the guys finger was bit off. I realize there are diff. sizes and species of eels, yet they all tend to put a little scare into me. As do many other species of animals/fish.
Although I have snorkeled and scuba dove in several lakes and oceans over the years, it is always concerning that we are in their world and sometimes they just attack. Of course dogs and cats, and even our fresh water fish, when in breeding dress, can do the same.
One can't always be to careful, ya know ?
Beautiful eel BTW, Jon.

Morays are not all that dangerous. Just dont go sticking your hands in holes. I have swam with lots of green morays that were a round the 6+foot range. They get about as big around as my thighs and are very cool. I have hand fed them shrimp, squid, and fish. Just have to use mesh gloves and dont let them near your face or to close to your hands.

I'm sure the same thing can be said about stingrays, yet one killed Steve Irwin. Even animals that are considered "tame" or used to human beings are potentially dangerous. Pet monkeys going bezerk and ripping people's faces off, circus elephants going nuts and stampeding, bears that maul people to death, pit bulls, and on and on.......just because it doesn't happen constantly doesn't mean that there isn't "potential." It certainly doesn't mean that you "shouldn't" go scuba diving or cautiously approach a wild animal either. Why do you think that they tell you to keep your hands away from them even though you are wearing stainless steel mesh gloves?! Because they ARE potentially dangerous. I doubt that Jon's son's snowflake will kill anyone, but the bigger it gets, the risk of needing stitches from a bite increases!! Having said that, I would still risk feeding a moray while scuba diving, though! Some things are too potentially cool to pass up!

I've been bit and stung by alot of things including an assortment of different eels and actually had a bite from a blackedge about 4 years ago that landed me in the clinic getting steroids injected in my hips b/c the inflamation would not go away after spending a week looking like mickey mouse. They are beautiful and fascinating creatures but they do demand respect
