plecos get a bacterial disease that only affects them.irritated skin and shyness cause from the environment they live in.the ammonia in the tank can make spots on the pleco.the parasite that get in the tank come from p.h. not right and ammonia .plecos struggle with this parasite the other fish in the tank rarely notice they are there.there is a suddenly dead with no symtoms that works just on plecos.use a antibiotic on plecos use only a 1/2 of the dose because plecos has sensitive skin and can be bad on there skin.

That's great information, Patty. I don't recall ever seeing it before. Thanks for sharing--it could be a solution to why pegasus lost hers.

I had a synodontis that got some sort of strange disease in my tank in my room. I had a W/C colony of 8 that were all about 4". One was out all day, so I knew something was wrong. It had a place behind the dorsal fin that didn't have any skin on it. That spot grew and grew, so I put it in my hospital tank. I treated with a quarter does of mal. green because I thought it was some sort of skin infection. I went on a weekend trip and when I got back it was still alive, but from back of the head to tail it was flesh and bone. I put it in a bag and threw it in my freezer to end the suffering. All my others are fine, so it must have been bit and then got an infection.
