I was generously given half a 5 gallon bucket full of plant clippings of red ludwigia, sunset hygro and java moss. I've had them sitting in water in a sealed bucket since Sunday, but when I opened the bucket today everything was covered in what I believe are black ramshorn snails. I also noticed tons of mosquito larvae swimming around. Is there an efficient method to rid the plants of the snails and destroy all the larva? The leaves of the plants are so delicate (and there are so many) that I can't imagine removing every snail by hand.... and I'm also a big wuss and really don't watch to touch the bugs. Ick! Any ideas? I cant imagine having to get rid of all these clippings.

your fish will love the mosquito larvae and you can but what is called SNAIL RID it will kill the snails and not hurt the plants or your fish

Get some rubber gloves from the drug store if you don't want to touch them, but it won't hurt ya.
Remember to remove the larger lower leaves beside nodes you will be burying when planting, to aid in less chance of stem rot as they root.

the larvae are a great treat for the fish. I usually keep a bucket of water out during the summer just for that reason and net them out every week for the fish.

I'm going to run out to find some potassium permanganate. Looks like a pretty good way to clean up the plants. Thanks for the link. I'm sure I'm going to be stuck on this like for hours reading all the different artices. They seem to be very well written.

I put some plants from a pond in my 10 gallon tank, and it is now *completely* overrun with snails as well! Good luck with your treatment regimen!

You absolutely MUST sterilize the plant clippings... no matter where or who they are from. I've never tried PP, I am old school and just use bleach. Ping me if you want to know how I do that.
