I had a female but he killed her, when he would get ready to breed- he had dark black barring and the red flares were ten times as intense

There's actually a lot of color in him. I think he's handsome. As fish go, of course.

Jon,
Based on your description it could be either: Haplochromis (Paralabidochromis) sp. "rock kribensis" Uganda, Common name: Ugandan Blue Rock Krib or Pundamilia sp. "Blue Bar", Common name: Hippo Point Blue Bar
But this is just a guess without seeing the fish in full color.

I love all the colors and the fins as well. Is it me or does it look really colorful, almost pearly?
