Hello everyone I am looking to set up a new 75 Gallon mbuna tank around the 4th of July. And I just wanted to see if anyone might have some fish for sale. I am looking for
Labidochromis caeruleus Iodotropheus sprengerae Metriaclima sp. 'dolphin' Manda also known as "giant demasoni" plus one other species.
Looking to eventually have 4 species, 1m 4/5f of each. Let me know if anyone has or will have any of these fish for sale!
Thank you

Welcome ! Glad you joined our forum. Hope you find valuable knowledge and new friendships here. We are all ready to talk fish, on any level. We have several African and S.A. fish hobbyists here who often can order items for you if no one on the forum has them to sell or trade. Take a look at our sponsors and write to them for availability or for ordering for you. RiftFish and Alabama Cichlids both order regularly. Also jgentry, tradewatertropical and paddysdaddy often have lots of Cichlids ready to sell. Check with them too. There are others who often have items to sell and trade too. They just haven't seen you post or don't have what you are looking for @ the moment. If you decide to be a club member and pay a $15 annual due, there is a 10% discount from many hobbyists, our sponsors, and from a few retail stores in the local area as well. Just some food for thought for you. Often the discount can offset the cost, depending on what you would spend in a year locally. Please continue to join us in conversation, whether you join the club or not. Rick

Hey guys I am back. My tank is doing great. and I am glad I joined up with the MCAA, because now one of my female labs is holding and I need to figure out what to do about it. Is there going to be a Fall MCAA swap meet? And do people usually want yellow labs ;D
Thanks alot guys!!!

Welcome, Zeusjuice! Two vague points about mbuna: Crowding works, put another way, make sure you have enough fish in the tank to provide a wide variety of targets for aggression. Fewer is worse, IMO. Second point is to be cautious and avoid the extremely aggressive species, Auratus and regular Johanni have wreaked havoc in my tanks as large as 125 gallons. Elongatus anything is a nightmare in a lightly populated tank, even for the ready-to-breed females. Yellow labs are one of the most popular and tradeable fish on the market. I bought some at the last swap for a friend, in fact A closing point, I made most of my BAP awards with mbuna. They are not "easy" fish to house but once you know their pattern, subsequent spawns are not difficult. And so it goes, when you have had Frontosas spawn, they become "easy" because your skill and observation powers are tuned in to them. Glad you are here, please come to the swap and mingle!

Really stupid question, but I see people talking about BAP and I have no idea what it means. Can you explain BAP to me?

Oops, everyone has heard of newbie errors. It seems I just made an "oldbie error" LOL. BAP stands for Breeders Award Program, a pretty straightforward way to announce that a species of your fish have bred, document it, donate a few fry as proof and earn awards based on how many times this occurs. The club members get to compete as much or as little as they wish, the club gets a way to pay for the awards earned and eventually we'll have a "cookbook" for anyone wishing to breed a certain kind of fish-what worked for Jon, what did he feed, how warm was the water etc. Yes, this is all available on the internet but it sure won't address the water in your neighborhood and the internet won't supply a buddy to call for advice. The club also competes on a national level with other clubs within specific classes like livebearers, killies and those other mean fish-I forget the genus name. Details of the BAP will be posted here soon including the submission form, awards and a points listing (another "cookbook" for which fish are difficult or easy to breed). And Zeus, there are no stupid questions!
