Two of the jack dempseys have been the same way here. Although one of the two will eat occasionally when she can't stand it anymore. What have you offered him? Try some brine shrimp if you haven't. Or something meaty.

well hes in a tank with 3 oscars, a jack demp, a blood parrot and a bala shark.
i give them pellets, blood worms, reg worms, brine shrimp and beefheart....and sometimes just flakes. but they eat often... and he wont touch anything, his poop is clear. but everyone else is fine.

I didn't think bloat was a problem with south americans but when you mention clear poop, and beef heart--I looked on the web and firemouths get bloat. They're New Worlds. Beef heart is often said to be a bad food to feed to fish. I haven't seen anything yet good about it. Doesn't mean there isn't and one of the New World moderators will be able to tell you if it's ok or not, but if it's stress-induced issues, is he intimidated by the other fish in the tank?

well he doesnt seem to be... every now and then he will "come out and play" with the oscars... but there doesnt seem to be tention with them....
And he hasnt eatten since i got him though... and honstley i probly havent feed them beefheart in the last 8 days.. usally its just blood worms, reg worms and pellets everyday.
i was gonna get some feeder fish and try that next cuz i dont know what to do really? I figured the clear poop was because there just wasnt anything in his stomach?
Amazingly enough ... ive been keeping an eye on his colors and they still look great so im not really sure whats going on. i just wanna poke him and tell him to smartin up! Eat dinner!

I'm feelin' ya. I worry when they won't eat. It's good to hear there probably wasn't beef heart involved. Do you know what he was being fed before you got him? One of the dempseys was getting earthworms and that's her big issue. She wants them again.

Hard to tell. But if it's just pickiness you'd think he'd get hungry and give in eventually.

I'm so happy to see yet another woman in the hobby! There are few of us. How does the husband like your fish?

ohhhh he likes them, especially feeding time. He could care less if i got anymore and tells me everytime i go to the fish store that we dont need anymore... but im hooked and have been for a long time. i enjoy watching them all the time.
He more or less adds up how much money i spend on them and reminds me every now and then!

I got Africans so mine decided to get South Americans and he always says he's not into fish but he talks to his all the time and they eat out of his hand. He tries not to play with mine, but they do the swimming alongside him when he walks and he has to spend some time with them then! They're just too cute! Glad yours is into them ok. Always gonna get it about the money spent on them I guess but they're no trouble are they? Still the easiest to live with of all pets!

I posted the same thing under the Bloat Cure thread in hopes you read this soon to help save your GT. Jamie, all fish can get Bloat. If yours fits the description then I would suggest ordering some Metrozinodole. I just ordered some from drsfostersmith.com a few weeks ago. Though If he is the only one, then I would suggest putting him in a smaller hospital tank and treating until all is good. This will save you a lot of money, since Metro is expensive. Read all symptoms on this page and determine what your fish may have. www.fishyfarmacy.com/fish_diseases/fecal_disorders.htmlThe site I listed above sells what you need(medicine links are to the right of symptoms listed in link above) or you can find similar products at various websites. I mostly shop @ drsfostersmith.com IF they are cheaper.

Siphon water from your live tanks, and a little substate from the tanks, and put some of the used filter media in the new filter and you should be ready to go.
