Hi everyone,
I was recently 'recruited' to here from the PlantedTank by Rick.
Always great to be a part of something 'local', as local as I can get from Bowling Green at least, haha.
Though really, I have only been in Kentucky for the last 6 months or so. Went from the OC, California to Atlantic City, New Jersey to Biloxi, Mississippi. After Hurricane Katrina, I had returned to California for a little over a year before coming back to Mississippi...this time eventually migrating up north to Hattiesburg to Jackson and now I am in land-locked BG, Kentucky. Lol.
I am returning to the hobby as of two months ago. I have raised freshwater fish since I was 10 up until I was about 18-20. 26 now, finally 'settled down' with two kids and likely staying here for the long-term, I decided to get back into the hobby. During that time, my most memorable experiences were breeding Halfmoon/Crowntail Bettas and raising African Cichlids/Oscars. As I recall...I use to feed my Oscar all types of junk...feeder fish, shrimps, cockroachs, etc. He was so greedy, he would eat two minnows and have a third sticking half-way out while he swims around digesting the first two.
I was hoping to do Bettas or Cichlids again, but I did not have a big enough tank for Cichlids at the time (2 x 10 gals and 1 x EHEIM 6 gal) and wife wanted to do "something different" (instead of Bettas). So now I have 3 different strains of "wild" N-Class Endler's Livebearers, Amano (Japanese Algae Eating) Shrimps, Ghost Shrimps, and Fire Red Shrimps. This will be the first time (finally) messing with live plants, inverts, and livebearers though. I can already tell that this is going to be an interesting experience.
As a side note, I did purchase a 40B from the recent Petco sale with hopes of using it to harbor some smaller Cichlids again...we'll see.
