I like the grow out contest that was brought up and I wish we could participate, but no longer have available tanks with the house being for sale.
With so many here with multiple tanks, how about a get together every so often to show your fish?

Just a general stat for all to realize on this same subject. There are 9 folks who have posted in this thread to date. There are some 50+/- various folks whose pen names appear in any given week. That is a ratio of about 20% who have posted into/onto this thread and some 80% who have not. Just some info. I thought all of you readers and posters would like to realize.

I don't mean this to be offensive in any way but in the absence of answers, I can only speculate, Rick. I'm not good at math, but check me. 50 visitors a week. 9 unique repliers. One of those repliers is fine with the status quo. If 41 non-responders are fine with the status quo, adding member "signde" makes 42. Maybe 84% of the forum readers are fine with the status quo? If that's the case, growth is not wanted. nor is any change. I am just guessing here. To me this is frustrating, but if only 16% want change, maybe this math is the answer to the oft-asked question.

More posts please. You readers need to speak up. Either way. Your opinions are valuable to every one else, even if we find ourselves disagreeing.

There is truth here. If people are happy, they likely won't say anything. I'm guilty of that on here when I know absolutely nothing about the topic being discussed. I don't say anything rather than putting muddying the water with something incorrect or saying "I don't know" just for the sake of posting. I don't mean this to be offensive in any way but in the absence of answers, I can only speculate, Rick. I'm not good at math, but check me. 50 visitors a week. 9 unique repliers. Well, OK. I concede that we may have 50 +/- "happy" individuals here. I am perfectly fine with that also. But I would like to see a bunch of the weekly/daily/bi-daily, etc. readers say something to that effect in this particular thread, since the topic of the thread is, "What do you want from the MCAA."
If you are content and happy, please type the word happy or content so all know you are. How is that for a request ?
All I am saying is all, me in particular, would like to know if this is the case. There are no dumb questions or comments, as far as I am concerned, so what ever any of you choose to type here is OK by me. But if unhappy, feel free to type that too, but be nice in your choice of words if you want to type more than unhappy or discontented.
Thanks so much everyone !!! Rick

Let's hear those comments, either way. Do you like the idea of BAPS ? Do you like the idea of participating in the C.A.R.E.S program ? Do you like the idea of a fry rearing competition ? Do you like the idea's being swirled around about quarterly swap/meets ? Do you like the swap/meets on Sat's or Sun's ? Do you like the silent and general suctions ? Do you like the on line picture contest ? Do you like the "Fun Polls" ? ...................... OR ........................ Do you dislike these ideas ? Do you have other suggestions ? Do you have other issues you would like to discuss ? What speaker subjects would you like @ your next swap/meet ? Do you want to participate in a membership drive during the Wilson County Fair this fall ? (It is reported to be a bigger fair turn out than the state fair) These are just a few ideas of things I was hoping to see you all posting about in this thread. Share your ideas please !!!!! I await other posters now. I am sure the above list is incomplete. You all fill it in.

It was mentioned about having a booth at the Wilson County fair, since it tends to have the largest turnout of the surrounding counties, but nothing has ever been set into stone ?
I suggested many other topics many of you could comment on in this thread. I would still like to hear and read posts from many more of you. Pos. or neg. comments accepted as long as "niceness" is included.
This thread is like the current #13 poll ? The thread is only as good as the folks who type into it, so come on.......................make comments y'all !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Being a slow responder, I don't want to seem like I don't care, 'cause I do. This club has been extremely helpful to me in my short tenure as a fish hobbyist. I've made friends and have received good advice from them. I've purchased some beautiful fish, equipment, and decor from some, sold some things to others. Everyone has treated me fairly and honestly, from my first purchase from Brian to my most recent from Jon and everyone in between. This is a top notch group of hobbyists.
That said, my life does not revolve around the fish hobby. I have several other interests plus a full-time job and a family. I'm probably not going to get anymore involved in MCAA or any fish-related activities than I am right now. We already have all the activities I need or want. I have no desire to breed fish. I like having mine in my office and I enjoy and take take good care of them but I probably won't get any deeper in than I am right now. That's just going to be my level of involvement.

I think Allan's reply sums it up, and I think that is how 95% of the hobbyist in this area feel. He even keeps multiple tanks, so he is far beyond the average guy with the fish tank.
That is why we need to reach out and bring more in. We need 300 people checking weekly and responding when they need help. Even if they don't join club, we need to welcome them to everything and not make them feel like they need to join. If we state what $15 covers and they don't think it is worth it, no problem.
We need them for lots of reasons, but even if they don't pay membership, they may bid on things at auctions and keep fish from going for $1 a bag. Even if they push it up to only $2 a bag, they doubled our money.
So what I need from the club is a way that we are going to actively recruit more members other than Craigslist, even though CL is good. If we don't advertise we are just going to tread water. For every member we gain, we will lose one.

We've heard from club leaders and it seems as though the BAP is on it's way to being accepted and debuted. There is no spawn that is not important! If the BAP form looks like a lot of info is required it is intimidating, let it be known that YOU need to jump in and try! As the BAP Chair, I will assure you that an incomplete form will not be rejected, nor will you be ridiculed for not testing this or that on your water. The only caution in this and all BAP programs is that the Chair's BS detector is pretty sharp LOL. If you don't know something, say so, if you didn't write down the date you celebrated the spawning or the free-swimming fry, say it's an estimate, be straight and all will be fine. I don't mean to be cynical about honesty, my skepticism comes from many years of running BAPs and I take the accountability of the office and records very seriously. For every 3 perfect and complete forms I've seen, there have been 10 incomplete ones and one that isn't on the up and up. I think all of the club would be supportive of a newbie that is doing their best and not one of the experienced people did it right and 100% complete even the first couple times or so. If you have guppies, swordtails, convicts or mollies breed, fill out the form, donate some of your precious first-born (or hatched) and JUMP IN! These species are easy, I know because they were my first submissions a very long time ago. The thrill is the same no matter the difficulty, rarity or beauty of the fish. I know Rick, the BAP committee, Jon and everyone else will celebrate with you, just get involved with fish breeding and share the knowledge. Remember, from your first spawn forward, you will be the go-to person!

I forgot to ask, do we let non club members donate and get BAPS points? Maybe let them donate extra fish to go toward membership? I don't know, just thinking out loud.
We are shooting for end of October. Our time window is closing. Scott go ahead as is, because we will have a BAPS by this swap. If changes need to be made, we can do that in future. We had three of five board members approve, other two haven't voted yes or no. Either way, it is 3 of 5 so any concerns can be addressed later.
We need to go ahead and let club know, because they won't have time to spawn anything by then. I am going on a limb here, but since it took us so long, maybe we wave the 60 day grow out for first auction. If any bags of fish are left over I will buy. So Scott if you are ok with it, I can post a thread with what you submitted and you can add whatever you need. I can just copy and paste what I put in officer thread.
You can add attachment for printing. We just need this done and behind us.
We will advertise for this swap and make this swap best yet. We can't sit on our hands any more.
