Over the past few days they have basically rearranged the substrate into a hot mess. I got a text from my daughter saying they were citing all type of crazy in the corner & when I got home I looked & this is what I saw! .... My question is, what should I expect over the next few days? If thee bad boys hatch I'm gonna try& see how I do at raising the fry.. I'm gonna set-up another tank tomorrow to try & grow them out.. I'm thinking of beginning with a sponge filter & trying to feed the fry golden pearls from kens fish.. I'd def appreciate any tips, advice or tricks of the trade. Thanks Jason.

Carpintis breed pretty easily but get a lot more aggressive with each other and tank mates. If you want to raise fry I think it is easiest to syphon them out when they are wigglers. If you only want to grow out a few you can wait until they are free swimmers and just net out 50 or so of them. Golden pearls works fine, although I alway fed my caprintis fry just crushed flakes.
What size is the tank? Males are notorious female killers so unless you have a huge tank it is only a matter of time before he descales her. He will want to breed again and she will not so she will pay the price. I always used a divider with this goup of fish as it is not if but when the female will get killed.
Congrats on the spawn, they are very pretty fish.

I'm going to set-up a 90 I have in my basement this weekend so if that goes as planned & I notice a uptick in aggression again ill just move 1 of them to it or both of them & divide it off.. On another note they have either moved the eggs to a place I can't see them or someone had fish eggs for dinner..

They will not move them. If anything ate them it would have been the pair as that is very common on the first try. If that was on day 3 they could have hatched and they just have the wigglers stuffed under something. If the female is no longer guarding a spot the males aggression probably stressed her out and caused her to eat them. Sometimes it takes a few tries for them to get it right. They will likely spawn again in 4 weeks or so. The aggression will get worse as they get bigger. A 180 is a good sizes tank but the male will still kill the female at some point. It's just how they role. They are brutal to there own kind.
Hopefully the female just has the stashed somewhere. If not do not worry, they will spawn again for you.
