Like so many others I started out in new world cichlids with a tiny little tiger oscar. They have great personalities, are brightly colored and grow huge. They are pretty looked down upon by a lot of serious new world keepers because they are so common and it seems like every poorly kept small tank has an oscar in it with someone that doesn't know what they are doing. But I'm here to tell you that they are a great fish and should not be overlooked by anyone. If you have a 75g that you want to dedicate one fish to there is nothing better then an oscar as far as I'm concerned, If you have a bigger tank they can be kept with a lot of different tank mates. They are messy and require top notch filtration and tank care, but can be a great pet. Here's my old tiger oscar in all his glory. He spend most of the day flaring at his reflection, slinging gravel, or begging for food.
