There's a good chance I'm going to be moving this summer. My mother lives in the next county over and her health is failing, so she is attempting to sell her home with the idea that she'll buy one here in Tullahoma and I can move in to look after her. So, I find that my many wants and desires with my fish hobby are somewhat thwarted. I really want a larger tank (maybe 125 but 150-180 would be better) but, even if I find one at the right price, I hate to set it up only to tear it down and move it a few weeks later. I want some of Jon's calvus and compressiceps. I want some super red severum and red shoulder sevs. I want some of Jamie's orangeheads and a couple of JD's electric blue dempseys. To make matters worse, I get online this morning and Jon is talking about his garage fish room, and JD is rightfully excited about plans to build his own fish room in a big walk-in closet. Angel has just added tanks and is busy gathering all the fish that she loves, and Jamie has a mysterious shipment coming in the first of June and is selling off some fish to make room for these prized additions. And, here I sit... It's no fun acting like an adult.

You're smart though! I'm right in the thick of wedding season, have graduations I'm trying to service as well, grandkids are ALWAYS here, house is getting filthy, I'm getting a killer cold, and I have three tanks I"m servicing for illness and fry tanks that need cleaned daily. It's not so smart jumping in instead of going slowly and deliberately.

Be patient and get ready because there will be a time for that. You will be doing a noble thing and I would do the same. Just get her to look for a house with room for your fishroom.

I swear I didn't plan it this way but....one of the houses we both really like is built on a slab...no weight worries at all...lol...also has a two-car garage and we're likely to have only one car. My head spins with the possibilities. Would have a nice master suite for my mom, a bedroom for me and a combination fish room and office in the other bedroom. Plus a huge, open living area that begs for a fish tank....and mom likes the tanks too.
I'm thinking of thinning my Peacock tank (75 gallon) and going ahead and adding a good group of calvus (really like the white) and comps (several varieties of those I like). They would do OK with the Peacocks wouldn't they?

Being an adult is hard but we all have to do it. I have a 180 in my garage that I know I won't be able to setup for a few months still. I'm having a "nice" indoor stand made now(as in my wife likes it as its going in the kitchen) but I know I have to paint the kitchen before I move the tank in. Little steps... I also have 2 75's in the garage that I will be swapping out with the 55's in my house currently. That being said I'm married, have kids, a full time job, am in school getting a masters, and... There is always something else. We can't do it all at once, just do what you can when you can. Life is like that anyway, sometimes things happen really quickly and other times there seem to be no changes in a year or more. Nobody, including yourself, would be happy if you devoted too much attention to any one area of your life, ignoring others. Just take a deep breath, and start writing down what you want to do when you have the time. At least in your mind you will feel that progress is being made.

Don't worry fishme. Take care of work and family first and use your spare time and money for small steps toward your dreams. Set yourself up a smallish tank or 2 to keep you tided over until you are in a stable place. Nothing is worse then moving aquariums. Trust me!!!!

Well....I already have five up and running...lol (a 75, a 45, two 30s and a 29) so I'm not exactly deprived....just really interested in some of the neat fish I'm seeing lately. The Ken Davis box deal really got me going, and then you went and posted the pic of that super red sev that's been driving me crazy. When everything gets settled, I'll have my big tank and set it up to be a beauty. It's worth waiting to do it right. The dreaming and the planning are a lot of fun.

Mommy of 5, in school to be a nurse (hopefully... still patiently waiting on the "letter") Work every single weekend.... And stuck with only 1 30 gallon... We used to have 5 tanks when we had only one child but it seems as the number of tots went up the number of tanks went down...

Whether you have a 5g to 220g tank, fish are nice, but keeping priorities straight is way more important and I admire anyone that can do that.
